My Bio

I was an Information Systems Technician in the U.S. Navy from 1997-2002. Recently, I freelance quite a bit of IT work, along with maintaining my server rack in the basement (all running FreeBSD or Linux). I run mostly abandoned server hardware with the latest FreeBSD OS installed. It's amazing how well they work when you run Unix or Linux.

So far, I run a mix of i386, amd64, sparc64, and powerpc64 architectures. They're currently running Gentoo Linux, but would like to eventually migrate them to FreeBSD. I like to learn different architectures and their capabilities. Everything is connected to a Cisco 2960S and 2960X switch.

I enjoy quite a bit of work on here and appreciate the artists' imaginations and their world. I am an Aspie, but I do enjoy some social settings. I am highly knowledgeable in the technical world (white hat), so if you have any questions, just ask. I am also a furry and have had the handle Simba7 (recently started spelling it out) for almost 26 years.

Most of my time is with my family. I have a daughter and 2 sons. They are Aspie's as well, and I try to teach them how to cope with it. It's not easy, but it's well worth it.

A few upgrades..

Huh.. It's been a year since I wrote in my journal on here. Well, here it goes. Not much is going on. I'm currently working full-time and having spare time is getting slim. Hopefully things slow down a bit. I've upgraded my system to 32GB of RAM, and I can run practically anything I want with room to spare. Just need a bit more disk space now. I've been playing with my Canon 7D. I really, really, like this camera. Hopefully I'll post a few pictures I took soon. Anyway, that's about it. I'll be in a slide-dumping frenzy soon, thanks to the tens of thousands of slides my Great Grandfather left behind. These date back to the 40's. Over half a

Ya.. I think I killed it..

Good thing I ordered 2x2TB drives for my laptop. I kinda ran out of space and decided to stuff it with a pair of 2TB drives instead of sticking with the 750GB drive. That's what happens when you have a crapload of games and software. I'll keep the 24GB of RAM, though. I haven't found a reason to bump it to 32GB yet. I'm sure it'll happen eventually. :) Hopefully I'll find time (and money) to beef up my desktop. Now, time to stuff OpenBSD on a Nokia IP380. So far, so good.

My Day in the IT field. Exciting, eh?

Not much new going on today. I'm a little.. irked.. that FreeBSD 10.0 is now an rc5, which should have been a release a week ago. Grrr. I've been waiting forever so I can finally power up the pSeries 52A, but NO. I have to wait a little longer. Anyway, I'm recompiling the kernel on the MyBook Live (running Gentoo) so I can, hopefully, get NFS working. It should be working now, but it's being an obnoxious pain in the rear. So, off to the IT closet I go. Hopefully I can snag the DSLR the next time I head to Thermopolis. Taking pictures with my Canon PowerShot or my Note 2's camera isn't really cutting it.
